JESÚS

Jesús is the managing editor of De Facto. He is responsible for overseeing the team of journalists, editorial review and special feature production.

 

Jesús has been a profesor of journalism at the University of Zulia, Venezuela, since 1987. He has a doctorate studies in Ethics and Access to Information, awarded through the Complutense University of Madrid's international program in Chile.

 

His academic and professional interests focus on the right to access public information, journalism ethics and the media, and publicly available open data. He has been active for more than a decade in the fight against corruption and disinformation in Venezuela.

 

Jesús has been a reporter, director and editor of print, radio and digital media, and has experience in fact checking processes.

TOM

Tom is an Associate Director at Southern Pulse and heads its disinformation practice, De Facto.


His work includes editorial oversight, product development and content creation.

 

Prior to Southern Pulse, Tom worked as deputy editor at Latin Lawyer, a Latin American-focused legal directory published by London-based Law Business Research. He holds a BA in Latin American Studies from the University of Liverpool and an MSc in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London.

 

Tom has traveled extensively in Latin America for more than a decade, but has spent the most time in Chile and Mexico where he worked and studied for several years.


JUAN EDUARDO

Juan Eduardo is senior analyst at De Facto and focuses his work on the region's Spanish speaking countries.


He is a journalist, communications professional and university teacher. He has practised journalism since 1995, communications work since 2000, and teaching since 2003.


He has been a corporate relations representative and responsible for diffusion, awareness and institutional communications; writer, editor, editor-in-chief, web content manager, director of content and editorial advisor in nine print and digital media companies in Bolivia; university professor in a range of topics related to journalism at graduate and postgraduate level, thesis tutor; and style editor for technical and academic texts. Juan Eduardo has worked in five cities in Bolivia.     

CARLOS

Carlos is De Facto’s Brazil analyst, assisting with disinformation review and analysis.


Before Southern Pulse, Carlos worked at Brazilian Think Tank Observa China, which focuses on China-Brazil relations. He has a masters in International Studies from The George Washington University and a masters in International Policy Analysis from The Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, where he also obtained a BA in International Relations.


His academic and professional interests are in Latin American economic and political integration and South-South cooperation for international development.


Carlos is a Brazilian native, but lives in Washington DC. He has traveled and lived in several countries in Latin America.
